Peter Chapman
http://www.peterchapman.ca/
It's no surprise Peter Chapman has one of the most impressive
portfolios of any Canadian composer his age - his career started at 19,
when he sold several short pieces to hit consumer TV show Street Cents.
More recently, his work has appeared on Sesame Street segments around
the world.
Now at 29 years old, Chapman is the lead composer for the Gemini
Award-winning television show Durham County. Recently he's written
music for the much anticipated Playstaion 3 game Mod Nation Racers, and
the retro kitch scifi game About a Blob as well as the music
documentary series City Sonic, and kids show Nunbory.
His music has been featured in ads for Primus Mobility, M&Ms,
Dodge, Petro Canada, Chlorox, Saturn, Black Diamond Cheese Strings and
RBC, and his self-produced solo work has charted in the top 5 on
several Canadian charts.
Chapman's course has been clear even before he bought his first 4-track
recorder at age 17. He spent his teen years writing music for his surf
band, the Shysters, and since then he's been playing, writing,
recording and remixing some of Canada's most exciting artists
(including the Meligrove Band, Woodhands, and The Bicycles).
Chapman spends most of his time in his studio surrounded by vintage
synthesizers, guitars and samplers, which he combines with modern
recording technology and production techniques to form his signature
sound. Even when not working to a deadline, he can still often be found
in his composing chair, putting together tracks for his electronic act,
Peter Project.

Mark Makoway
http://www.markmakoway.com/index.html
Mark
Makoway is a Toronto-based mixer, songwriter and multiple Juno award
winner and nominee. One of the leading mixers in the country, Makowayʼs
mixes are on the charts both in North America and abroad.
With credits covering a spectrum of artists including Evans
Blue(Hollywood Records), Elias (Wax Records), Crash Parallel (Sony
Music), Sarah Slean (Warner Music) and Buck 65 (Warner Music), Makoway
displays great versatility; mixing for the demands of different genres
and radio formats. Mixing highlights include: Evans Blueʼs “Cold
(But Iʼm Still Here)” that held steady in the top 10 for months
on American Active Rock charts and David Usherʼs “Black Black
Heart” (EMI) that topped Pop charts in Canada and Europe.
“Mixing is my first love,” says Makoway. “The
challenge - particularly with projects that were recorded on a
shoestring – is that they have to sound as good as big budget
albums by multi-platinum artists. I get a lot of satisfaction when my
mixes leave the studio sounding world-class.”
In addition to established Major Label and Independent artists, Makoway
develops new talent. Makoway has written with artists ranging from
Canadian Idol winner Kalan Porter (SonyBMG) and Chis Stoppa (Hollywood
Records) to Kyle Riabko (Aware / SonyBMG) and Alana Levandoski (Rounder
Records)
In 2002, Makoway was nominated alongside industry heavyweights Daniel
Lanois and Bob Rock for the Producer of the Year Juno. That same year
the Makowayproduced and mixed album Morning Orbit by David Usher
garnered the Juno for Pop Album of the Year.
Makoway is also author of the best-selling music industry guide: The
Indie Band Bible. Now in its 2nd printing, TIBB offers a comprehensive
look at all aspects of forming a group, performing, recording,
marketing and signing industry deals. With contributions from industry
leaders including Terry McBride (Nettwerk Management), Denise Donlon
(MuchMusic, Sony Music) and Mike McCarty (EMI Music Publishing), TIBB
has become an essential resource for musicians. In addition to its use
at music industry seminars and forums, TIBB is also used as a textbook
in several college courses and is recommended by Canadian Bar
Association.
As a member of the Canadian rock band MOIST, Mark Makoway wrote and
coproduced smash hits, toured worldwide and sold over a million albums
in Canada alone.
“I feel lucky to have such a varied and interesting career. I
managed to give my day job a long time ago,” muses Makoway.
“But the common thread is the music.”

Mogul : The Life and Times of Lew Wasserman, Alliance Atlantis' film
Foolproof, Columbia Tristar thriller Resurrection and Odeon's Treed
Murray, which was nominated for five 2001 Genie Awards including Best
Picture and Outstanding Achievement in Music. The score for Treed
Murray went on to win Gold in the 2002 Film Festival in Mar del Plata,
Argentina.
McGrath has orchestrated and conducted film scores with the Munich
Symphony, the Salt Lake Symphony, the London Philharmonia and the City

of Time Ensemble.
Concert music includes a set of miniatures recorded by True North
Brass, a suite for horn and orchestra for Canadian Opera Company
principal horn Joan Watson and a commission for the Kitchener Waterloo
symphony:
“…both the piece and the performance were pretty much the
highlight of the whole concert. Larry Larson's trumpet was beautiful
and flawless, and the piece itself had echoes of Aaron Copland, John
Williams and even Samuel Barber. Written for trumpet solo, strings and
harp, Silent Town is a miniature
masterpiece.”

Peter J Moore
http://www.peterjmoore.com/
Originally from Hamilton, Ontario, by the age of six Peter owned a
portable reel-to-reel tape recorder. By the age of sixteen he had a
large audiophile stereo system and a small home studio.
In 1976, while at the University of Western Ontario in London Ontario,
Peter and a few other students started the campus radio broadcast
station CHRW. He was the on-air DJ for the new music program covering
the Punk Rock and New Wave scene. At that time most records from the
current artists were imported from England, which created a problem
fulfilling the radio's '33% Canadian content' ruling. Since there were
very few Canadian releases, Peter started recording the live shows of
local and touring Canadian punk rock bands at his own expense and
playing them on his radio show, 'The Simon Less Radio Program'. In
1979, while still studying for a degree in anthropology, Peter founded
a record label called Silent Head Records and provided a rehearsal
space in his own rented house for the local punk scene.
By 1981, his self taught producing/engineering skills had reached a
professional level and he branched out into other forms of music such
as jazz and classical. After graduating UWO in 1982, he founded MDI
Productions (incorporated in 1986) and moved his operation to Toronto.
In Toronto, Peter continued to produce rock, jazz, and classical
recordings as well as film and TV scores. In 1985, he was approached by
Adcom Electronics, Canada's largest professional video supplier, to
create and manage a new audio division. His duties included designing
and outfitting professional music, film, and television studios
throughout Canada such as Film House, CBC Toronto, Pathe, Manta, CBC
Montreal, Sounds Interchange, Eastern, PFA, Sound House, CBC Vancouver
(exceeding sales 1.8 million in his last year, 1989).
In 1988, Peter produced the now famous one microphone recording Cowboy
Junkies 'Trinity Sessions' which was released by RCA New York in 1989.
This became an international success story selling more than 2 million
copies in the first year. He left his employment at Adcom and has been
producing, mastering and restoring music full time ever since.
His credits include Neil Young, Garth Hudson, Joni Mitchell, James
Taylor, Oscar Peterson, Diana Krall, Neko Case, Bruce Cockburn, Murray
MacLauchlan, Finger Eleven, Sloan, and hundreds of others.
He has won 3 Grammy Awards, and was nominated for a 4th this year (Neko
Case). He has won 2 Genie’s, 2 Gemini’s and has been
nominated twice for a Juno.

Craig Norris
http://radio3.cbc.ca/#/profile/Craig-Norris
Craig Norris can’t fix cars. He can’t paint paintings, or
even houses for that matter. No one has ever asked Craig to perform
major surgery, and there are more than a few people who can attest to
his shoddy veterinary work.
Craig has two, discernible talents; playing music and talking. And,
much to his grade 4 teacher’s chagrin, he seems to have
successfully melded the two together.
His formative years were spent studying piano at The Royal Conservatory
of Music. In high school, he added saxophone, clarinet and flute. The
past 19+ years has been spent fronting The Kramdens.
While his music has defined him, his humour and ease at the mic led him
to CTV, where he was “the music guy” on The Chatroom and
eTalk! Through karma and luck, Craig ended up at CBCRadio3, where among various other things, he hosts The Craig Norris Hour and The R3-30.

Brad Turcotte
http://www.bradsucks.net/about/
http://www.facebook.com/braad
http://twitter.com/BradSucks
Brad Sucks is the name of my one man band. I write, record and produce
songs and put them on this website for people to download and hopefully
share and enjoy. There are also some albums for sale.
In 2001, I started using the Internet (blogs, MP3s, P2P) to spread my
music and not worrying so much about copyright violation. I've even
been giving the source of my songs away for remixers to play with. I
figured that spreading my music should be the number one goal and so
far it's worked out pretty well.
Despite giving my music away for free online, my songs have been
licensed for television, played on commercial and campus radio, and I
made enough money from licensing and sales to do a real pressing of my
first CD: I Don't Know What I'm Doing. I followed that up with Out of
It in 2008.
I've also been involved in the open source community. I designed the
default sounds for the popular instant messaging client Pidgin and have
also released some open source packages for musicians: the Brad Sucks
Digital Download Store, Gimme Some Money as well as many other projects.
Most of this Wikipedia page is true.
WIKI: Brad Turcotte (born 14 November 1976), performing under the name
Brad Sucks, is a musician from Ottawa, Ontario. Turcotte releases his
songs under a copyleft license[citation needed], essentially reversing
the effects of copyright.[1] Promoting his music through sites such as
Magnatune and ccMixter, as well as MySpace and Podsafe, he has used
micropatronage to profit from his work without restricting the freedom
to share and modify it.
Turcotte received free publicity through blogs and interviews in free
culture magazines. His first full CD, I Don't Know What I'm Doing, was
released both through Magnatune and a limited "professional" printing
from his own website.
Turcotte's most recent album, released on 8 September 2008, is called Out of It.

Dan Weston
http://www.weareblackbox.com/system/artists/danweston/
The Phenom!
Dan Weston is fueled by a passion and an unparalleled commitment to
music that can only be described as obsession. This obsession had him
recording music before he turned 12, and has propelled him into his
career in music production.
At 24, Dan has accumulated a broad range of credits, including
engineering work for City & Colour (Dine Alone/Vagrant), mixing
projects for Classified (Sony Music), Ten Second Epic (Black Box) and
The Reason (Warner), as well as production on projects ranging from
Attack In Black (Dine Alone) to Crash Parallel (Sony BMG).
With no set formula or rules to follow, Dan’s approach is to make
sure that each project evokes the artist’s unique qualities. When
you put his young age and years of experience together, you have a rare
and distinct combination. This contrast of youth and depth of expertise
somehow enable Dan to find an unusual fit with each project, blending
in both personally and professionally with the artist, yet working
objectively to push them forward and achieve their vision.

Phil Villeneuve is “the music man” at Puretracks.com
For over three years he’s been taking care of all music content
programming on one of Canada’s leading digital music destinations
(and their partner sites which include MuchMusic, Palmares in QC and
Bell Sympatico).
Relationships with every major label as well as a small goldmine of
Canadian and US indies give him some pretty unique insight into music
marketing and how to sell to a wide spectrum of consumers.
He’s also a music writer (Chart Magazine) and musician himself,
which provides him with multiple angles to look at getting music
“out there”.
Phil also enjoys dancing in public to his favourite pop songs and posting them on Youtube for the world, for no reason at all.

A cursory listen to any of Michael Phillip Wojewoda’s eclectic
body of work from the last 25 years betrays a distinct aural vision and
a firm commitment to sonic excellence. Wojewoda has played an ongoing
and crucial role in the canon of Canadian music, from Toronto’s
Queen St. punk scene of the mid-’80s, to groundbreaking art rock
of the early ’90s, to some of that decade’s most
commercially successful albums.
An accomplished drummer and vocal arranger, the artistically ambitious
and Juno Award-winning Wojewoda is also an analog synth enthusiast,
equally at home with down-home acoustics and envelope-pushing
electronics. Having worked with some of the feistiest characters in the
country, his persuasive personality brings strong egos together to
produce their finest performances. Having crafted several acclaimed
album-length narratives (aka concept albums), he makes the seemingly
impossible a sonic reality, focusing large ideas into digestible
recordings.
