Joint SMPTE/AES Meeting: E-Cinema and Review of Surround Sound

Something new has arrived on the production scene: 24 Frame Progressive HDTV. This new technology for acquiring HDTV stirred up considerable excitement within the production community, even before it's arrival. It spurred an unprecedented feat this year within the ITU standards of setting process, contributing to a global standard for a digital HD medium for production and international program exchange and distribution. This new technology has also set the stage for theatrical presentation in an Electronic Cinema environment. Please join Sony of Canada Ltd. and our friends at SMPTE for a discussion and demonstration of the new technology called E-Cinema. Along with the presentation of the technology there will be a discussion of the various products currently available and Sony's strategy for the future of the technology. The agenda will include items such as: "Projection Technology", "Digital Transmission", and "E-Cinema Issues".

Daniel Pellerin, director of film mixing services at Deluxe will also favour us with an update on surround sound: the various formats and recent developments. Daniel, whose mixing credits include "American Psycho", "Felicia's Journey" and "Sunshine" will follow up his discussion with examples of some of his recent work.
